The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has criticized the deportation of 41 Sri Lankan asylum seekers by Australia.
Australian High Court had blocked the deportation of 153 asylum seekers from Sri Lanka, reports the Daily Mirror.
Authorities in Australia informed the UNHRC, that advanced screening was being used to determine claims for protection by the deported that required additional consideration.
The agency said it had earlier informed Australia about the agency's non-conformity with international law and about its screening procedures.
The Refugee Convention of 1951 forbids the forceful return of people who are seeking asylum.
UNHRC said that it had not objected to the return of people not seeking international protection. However, people seeking asylum had a right to have their cases reviewed, it added.
