UN Humanitarian Chief Valerie Amos will on Friday start her first official visit to Iran, Farhan Haq, the UN associate spokesman has said.
The visit will last until September 16, Haq said at a daily news briefing.
He said that the mission is Amos' first official visit to the country in her capacity as UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator.
Amos is expected to meet senior officials in Tehran, Haq said.
He added that she will focus on expanding regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and enhancing the partnership between Iran and the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Amos, also the head of the OCHA, is the eighth and current UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator.
Before her appointment to the present UN post in July 2010, she had been the British high commissioner to Australia.
