United Nation's peace envoy to Syria has said he does not expect to achieve 'anything substantive' in the first round of Syria talks.

Lakhdar Brahimi said he was 'not disappointed' and that 'the ice is breaking slowly'.

He also said that the United Nations and Syrian government were still negotiating on getting a humanitarian aid convoy into the besieged city of Homs, the BBC reports.

According to the report, Brahimi said that the gap between the two sides remained quite large but there was a willingness to continue the talks.

Brahimi added that he was hopeful Russia and the US would exert greater influence over the two sides to help bridge that gap, the report added.
