UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has said report confirms chemical weapons were used on a relatively large scale in the August 21st attack in Syria.
The United States, Britain and France have warned President Bashar al-Assad that there would be consequences if he failed to hand over Syria's chemical weapons.
They added that the UN report on the August 21 sarin gas attack left no doubt that Assad's forces were to be blamed for the attack.
The report by UN chemical weapons experts did not say who launched the attack on the rebel-held Damascus suburb of Ghouta.
According to stuff.co.nz, the United Nations report confirmed unequivocally and objectively that chemical weapons were used.
Ban told the Security Council that this is a war crime, adding that the international community has a responsibility to hold the perpetrators accountable and to ensure that chemical weapons never re-emerge as an instrument of warfare.
Washington's ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, said the UN report made clear that only the Syrian government could have carried it out, the report added.
