The UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said more than 191,000 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict up to April.

She said the figure was "probably an underestimate" and criticised what she called "international paralysis" on the issue, the BBC reports.

Pillay said it is probably an underestimate of the real total number of people killed during the first three years of this murderous conflict.

She added the killers, destroyers and torturers in Syria have been empowered and emboldened by the international paralysis.

The current figure is apparently more than double the UN figure documented a year ago.

The UN has accused both the Syrian government and Syrian rebel groups of indulging in war crimes.
