United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has thanked India for the 'unprecedented' International Yoga Day event.
The UN secretary General expressed his thanks to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is New York to participate in the occasion.
"I heard that there is great enthusiasm in India. We were thinking how we could do programmes... it is unprecedented that two million people are participating. I would like to thank India for this," the UN Secretary General told Swaraj during their meeting.
The Yoga Day event in New York has been organised by the Indian Mission at the United Nations.
The United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga after adopting a measure proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi had in his speech at the UN General Assembly in September 2014 called for recognition of such a day.
