Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has branded this year as the worst in his career after Real's Copa del Rey final defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico won their 10th Spanish Cup as goals from Diego Costa and Miranda saw them beat Real 2-1 in extra-time, even as Mourinho was sent off the field for dissent after a verbal attack on referee Carlos Clos Gomez in normal time, The Sun reports.

The report further said that star forward Cristiano Ronaldo was also sent off controversially in extra time after being felled by Atletico skipper Gabi and then catching him a flailing leg in the face.

Rumoured to quit and return to Chelsea this summer, Mourinho, who may finish his Bernabeu career with a trophy-less season, said that he had never left a season without winning an important title and in that sense he has failed.

According to the Portuguese, it is not the players or the structure who fails, but the manager, adding that a season like that with a Champions League semi-final and second place in the league, a cup final and a Supercup may be good for others but is a failure for him.

On the subject of his future, Mourinho said that he has the contract at Real for three more years, adding that he will announce his decision after the meeting with president Florentino Perez.

However, Mourinho hinted that the meeting with Perez could take place before the end of the season as the Spanish giants have to play two more matches before La Liga concludes.
