Pakistan veteran batsman Younis Khan has ruled himself out of the first Test of the three-match series against West Indies, which is scheduled to be held in Dubai from October 13.
The 38-year-old informed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq that he needs another 10 days of rest to make a complete recovery from a bout of dengue fever that he had recently suffered and for which he need to be hospitalized in Karachi.
"The selectors are yet to announce the squad, but its is confirmed that Younis will not take part in the opening game in Dubai. He asked for rest to be fully fit before his national selection since he has recently recovered from dengue," a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Younis, who is currently Pakistan's leading run-getter in Tests with 9456 runs at 53.72. is expected to be available for the second Test in Abu Dhabi, which begins on OCtober 21.
