New York authorities have reportedly returned unidentified human remains of 9/11 victims to "Ground Zero".
Nearly 7,930 unidentified fragments of human tissue have been returned to "Ground Zero" in a solemn ceremony, the BBC reports.
Following the move, some outraged family members of the 9/11 victims staged a silent protest against the decision at the memorial site, by covering their mouths with black tape.
The remains were transported from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to a repository under the World Trade Center site in fifteen vehicles.
Placed in metallic boxes and draped with a US flag, the remains were taken in a convoy comprising fire trucks and police vehicles to the site of the attacks in downtown Manhattan, the report added.
Almost 3,000 lives were lost in the 11 September 2001 terror attacks in New York, the Washington DC and Pennsylvania.
