Nearly seven million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid in Syria due to the ongoing conflict in the country, a top United Nations official has said.

UN Emergency Relief coordinator Valerie Amos said that 4.4 billion dollars was needed this year in aid for the civilians in the war-torn country.

According to news24, Amos said that more than two million have taken shelter outside Syria, while more than four million people have been displaced within the country.

She highlighted a wide hole in the funds available for humanitarian aid to the victims of the Syrian conflict.

More than 110 000 people have been killed since the rebellion against the government of President Bashar al-Assad erupted in March 2011, the report added.
