Unnecessary to discuss new CWC members: Digvijaya Singh

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday downplayed his non-inclusion in the new Congress Working Committee (CWC), saying it was unnecessary to discuss the new members.

"I'm happy that Rahul Gandhi has formed a new team. It is unnecessary to discuss who is a part of it. The challenge in front of us is very serious," Singh told ANI.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi announced the names of those in the new CWC, which did not include Singh and other leaders such as Janardan Dwivedi, Kamal Nath, Sushilkumar Shinde and Karan Singh.

The new committee has 51 members in total- 23 members, 19 permanent invitees and nine special invitees when compared to the 36 members in the previous CWC.

 

The first meeting of the new CWC will be held on July 22 to chalk out the party's strategy.

The members include Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh, Motilal Vora, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, AK Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, Oommen Chandy, Tarun Gogoi, Siddaramaiah, Anand Sharma, Harish Rawat, Kumari Selja, Mukul Wasnik, Avinash Pande, KC Venugopal, Dipak Babaria, Tamradhwaj Sahu, Raghuveer Meena, Gaikhangam and Ashok Gehlot.
