The Uttar Pradesh Government has imposed a ban on victory processions on Friday.

Chief Secretary Javed Usmani directed officials to enforce the ban strictly.

Usmani also called for a strict vigil in all districts for at least 15 days, or more, after the announcement of the results.

Addressing officials through video conferencing yesterday, Usmani directed them to prevent any tension and violence during counting of votes and celebrations.

The administration would keep an extra vigil on losing candidates to prevent any law and order crisis.

According to media reports, a three-tier security arrangement is in place at counting centres.

The Election Commission has appointed 112 general observers and ten special observers to keep a close eye over the counting.
