In a bid to stop arbitrary fee hike in public schools, Uttar Pradesh Government has passed, UP Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fees Regulation) Act 2018, which will be applied to all self-financed schools of the state.

In accordance with this Act, a recognised school may revise its fee annually for its existing students by itself for grade/class/level of school equivalent to average percentage per capita increase of monthly salary of teaching staff of previous year, but the fee increase shall not exceed latest available yearly percentage increase in consumer price index+five per cent of the fee realised from the student.

This development came to light after a letter (dated December 28, 2019) was issued by the Secretary of the District Fee Regulation Committee, Gautam Budh Nagar.

The authorities have directed educational institutions falling under the purview of this Act to upload their fee structure on the school website by January 30, 2020.
