UP has voted for development, PM Modi: Raman Singh

With trends showing a massive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that people in the politically crucial state have voted for development this time.

"After 37 years BJP will form government in Uttar Pradesh with a comfortable majority. I congratulate Prime Minister Modi and BJP," Singh told ANI.

Taking a jibe at the Samajwadi Party -Congress, he further said that campaigns against the BJP did not help this alliance.

Echoing similar sentiments, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also lavished praise on Prime Minister Modi's leadership.

 

"The people of UP have faith in Prime Minister Modi, the policies and agenda by BJP president Amit Shah also worked in favour of the party," he told ANI in Bhopal.

The early trends in the assembly election show the BJP leading in 316 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress leading in 11 seats , Samajwadi Party (SP) leading in 65 seats while Mayawati-led Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) ahead in 18 seats.

Uttar Pradesh went to polls in seven phases in the months of February and March.

A total of 4,854 candidates are in fray for 403 assembly constituencies.
