Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party was ahead of its rivals in the first phase of polling and were on the road to form government in the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, Baghpat MP Satyapal Singh on Wednesday said the party has emerged as a good alternative because it can bring development in state and provide security to the people.
Showing confidence that the people of Uttar Pradesh will go in large numbers to vote for the party in the second phase also, Singh told ANI people now want a government whose work and performance can set an example.
"Every party tries to show that they have people's mandate during election but the truth is that people are tired of these 15 years of miss-governance. Be it Samajwadi party of Bahujan Samaj Party, people of Uttar Pradesh are upset. People now want a government whose work and performance can be an example. Who can end corruption, who can bring law and order, who can give jobs to youth, who can help the farmers. This is why people can only see one party who can do all this and that is the Bharatiya Janata Party," he added.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made for polling for single-phase Assembly elections in Uttarakhand and second phase in Uttar Pradesh.
In Uttar Pradesh, polling for the second phase will be held in 67 constituencies spread over 11 districts. Election for the Alapur constituency, which was postponed following SP candidate Chandrashekhar's death, will also be held on the 9th of next month.
The districts going for polls in the second phase include Saharanpur, Bijnore, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri and Badayun. Barricades have been erected at the entry points of districts where round the clock intense search of vehicles is being carried out by security forces.
Voting will begin at 7.00 a.m. and continue till five in the evening. There are 721 candidates including 82 women and one third gender in the fray in this phase. The fate of these candidates will be decided by 2 crore 28 lakhs voters.

14 thousand 771 polling centers and 23 thousand 693 polling stations have been erected in this phase.
Meanwhile, campaigning has intensified in areas going to polls in remaining 5 phases of 7-phase polls in the state.
Today was also the last date for filing of nominations for the sixth phase, in which 49 constituencies will go to polls on the 4th of next month. Uttar Pradesh has a 403-member Assembly.
The remaining five phases of polling will be held on February 19, 23, 27 and on March 4 and 8 with counting of votes to be taken up on March 11.
