The US Army is reportedly planning to track the online behaviour of its employees in a bid to thwart NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden-like fiasco.
The army plans to monitor the web activities with a tracking software that will be woven into Army Network 2020, an in-house computer network set to launch in seven years.
According to Mashable, the network aims to catch anyone who might download and distribute crucial classified documents related to the US' national security.
The report said that the order for the employee tracking system was given last November, when US President Barack Obama issued a memo that describes programs meant to 'deter, detect and mitigate actions by employees who may represent a threat to national security.'
The monitoring system will use 'behavior-based analytics' tracking the activity of soldiers, and target employees who have just started or are about to leave their job, as they are seen as most likely to leak information.
Spokesperson for the US army, Matthew Bourke declined to comment about the extent of the monitoring, but apparently confirmed that Army Network 2020 will include an employee-monitoring component, the report added.
