Lebanon has condemned the United States decision to recognise Israel's sovereignty on Golan Heights.

Citing NNA, IRNA quoted Lebanon Foreign Ministry as saying, "The US presidential declaration on Israel's right to annex the Syrian Golan is condemnable and breaches all rules of international law, undermining any effort to reach a just peace."

"The principle of land for peace falls...for when there is no land to be restored, no peace remains to be given," the statement reads.

Syrian Foreign Ministry had also stated that US President Donald Trump's recognition of the annexed Syrian Golan to the Zionist occupation entity is flagrant aggression on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

In the statement, Syria also stated that Washington's decision is indicative of US' hostility against the Arab world, adding that Washington proved that it is an enemy of the Arab world.

On March 21, Trump had tweeted that after 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognise Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi had earlier said that the impetuous personal decisions of Trump are pushing the sensitive region of the Middle East toward consecutive crises.

Condemning the occupation of lands in any forms, Qasemi said, "The interventionist decision of the US President never changes the fact that the Golan Heights belong to Syria, rather it clearly shows the failure of compromising policies while proving the correctness of the path of resistance against the expansionist and aggressive conduct of the US and the Zionist regime."

Sputnik on Tuesday reported that the League of Arab states has also rejected the decision to recognise Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

"This US statement does not change anything in the status of the Golan Heights. The Golan is a piece of occupied Syrian territory ... Occupation is a serious crime, but attempts to legalise this occupation is also a great mistake," Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said in a statement on Monday.

He further pointed out that the decision is a violation of the international law adding that it "harms the US authority not only in the Middle Eastern region but also in the world."

He further stated that the Arab countries would unanimously recognise Syria's right to the Golan Heights at the organisation's upcoming summit.

"It will definitely be reflected in the resolutions of the Arab League summit that will be held next week," Aboul Gheit stated.

Saudi Arabia and Turkey also came forward to condemn the decision.

The US garnered global condemnation after Trump signed an official decree in the presence of Israel's President Benjamin Netanyahu, to recognise Israel's sovereignty on the Golan Heights on Monday.

Israel had formally annexed the territory in 1981 after capturing the region from Syria during the six-day war in 1967. The Israeli annexation has long been decried by the world community who regard Golan Heights as an occupied territory and Israeli settlements in the region are illegal as per international law.
