US 'folk hero' Wild Bill Hickok's gun up for grabs for 320k pounds

US folk hero Wild Bill Hickok's legendary Smith and Wesson No 2 revolver has been put for auction for 320,000 pounds.

The gun, which will sell for about 1,300 pounds in today's times was sold for just 10 pounds at his time, emerged for an auction nearly 140 years after Wild Bill died playing poker at a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota.

The .32 gun that has a 6in barrel, blue finish and varnished rosewood grips comes along with its documentation proving its provenance, the Daily Express reported.

The gun was sold for payment off Hickok's debts and was passed down one family in Deadwood ever since.

 

He was born James Butler Hickok in 1837 to English parents, and by the age of 12 had gained a reputation as a gifted marksmen.
