US high-school students under fire for using 'NFL-style draft' to pick prom dates

Students at a Californian high school have been slammed for using a sport-style "draft" to pick girls as prom dates.

Boys use to pick prom dates have the choice to turn the boy down, News.com.au reported.

Corona del Mar High's principal Kathy Scott has sent parents an email threatening to cancel the school's prom if the draft wasn't scrapped, saying that the process had the potential to objectify or judge those involved.

Students have held the "Prom Draft" traditionally for a number of years, which had always been done in secret, but the after details of the draft were broadcast on Twitter, it has been revealed.

 

However, one of the girls involved has said the draft was not harmful and that the negative reaction was unnecessary, as it was fun way to decide who one will be going to prom with and doesn't mean to harm those who are picked.
