The United States has reportedly expressed hope that Pakistan and India would continue their recent peace efforts towards normalisation of relations despite the recent turbulence caused in the respective governments over reports of the alleged unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side and the resultant death of five Indian soldiers.
According to the Express Tribune, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said that US is aware of the unconfirmed reports and is concerned about any violence along the Line of Control(LoC) and added that Washington's policy on the Kashmir dispute has not changed.
Psaki further said that the pace, scope and the character of India and Pakistan's dialogue on Kashmir is for those two countries to determine and the US hopes that India and Pakistan will continue the steps they have recently taken to improve their bilateral relations.
Defence Minister A.K Antony condemning the act by the Pakistani side said that the numbers of infiltration attempts have doubled this year in comparison to the corresponding period January 1- August 5 of 2012.
