A US lawmaker has reportedly said that former NSA contractor Edward Snowden is a whistleblower and has revealed what the Congress needed to know adding to the growing debate about whether he is a 'fugitive' or has worked in favour of human rights to privacy.
According to the Fox News, Rep. Justin Amash acknowledged that Congress was aware that US intelligence agents could gather information on Americans under the post-9/11 Patriot Act but not to the extent which Snowden has revealed.
A former NSA and CIA leader, Michael Hayden also agreed upon calling Snowden a whistleblower and said that he be counted in those 45 percent of Americans who think he is a whistleblower and not a traitor as found by a recent poll.
Snowden who is facing espionage charges has been granted temporary asylum in Russia for a period of one year.
