United States lawmakers have appealed to block President Barack Obama's plan to shift control of the U.S. drone campaign from the CIA to the Defense Department.

The Congress has demanded Obama to insert a secret provision in the bill which would restrict the use of any funding to transfer unmanned aircraft or the authority to carry out drone strikes from the CIA to the Pentagon, the Washington Post reports.

The officials said that the decision was included in a classified annex to the 1.1 trillion dollars federal budget plan, which was introduced this week, in a bid to preserve the spy agency's role in counterterrorism operations the measure.
