The U.S. military has carried out 2,320 air strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants since 8 August at a cost of 1.83 billion dollars, the Pentagon said.

Pentagon spokesperson Army Colonel Steve Warren revealed that the air strikes launched by the U.S. military amounted to about 80 percent of the total number carried out by a multinational coalition, reported News 24.

The coalition, which comprises more than 60 countries, had conducted a total of 2,893 air strikes, with 1,631 in Iraq and 1,262 in Syria, hitting 5 314 targets. While Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Jordan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom conduct air strikes in Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates launch air raids in Syria. The U.S. carries out strikes in both Middle East states.

Warren said that the strikes destroyed 73 tanks, 282 Humvee vehicles that had been taken from Iraqi forces and 87 oil collection points. They also targeted 408 IS staging areas and 1,003 fighting positions.

The figures covered air strikes conducted between 8 August 2014, and 18 March 2015.
