The United States has said the 10-year sentence reduction for Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped CIA track slain al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to his hideout in Abbottabad in 2011, is a positive step but that his jail term is still unjust.
A Pakistani judicial official has reduced Afridi's sentence from 33 years to 23 years.
According to Dawn News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the US is continuing to tell Pakistan that the conviction sends the wrong message.
Afridi was convicted of helping Islamic militants in 2012, but it's widely believed that he is being punished for his role in helping the CIA find Osama, the report added.
