An American crackdown on Al Qaeda's funding channels has left leader Ayman Zawahiri looking for ways to channel cash.

American spooks have secured a major victory over terrorism by cutting off millions of pounds intended for their arms-buying operations, reported The Mirror.

The CIA, FBI and U.S. Treasury have tracked down and frozen about 14 million pounds in assets, thereby significantly disrupting Al Qaeda's terror activities.

An intelligence source said that huge efforts were underway to cut off financing of terrorism both in terms of terror groups and states that sponsor them.

The dossier of blocked terror funding was revealed in a report called Terror Assets by the Office of Foreign Assets Control within the US Treasury Department.

Al Qaeda had almost nine million pounds frozen in 2013 however; the number dropped by nearly one million pounds as some funds had to be released later on because they had been wrongly linked to the group.
