The US Senate has overwhelmingly passed a bill to give Congress the authority to review an emerging nuclear deal between world powers and Iran, despite facing resistance from some Republicans to threaten the bill's passage.
While senators voted 98-1 in favour of the bill, the lone dissenter was Tom Cotton, one of the fiercest critics of nuclear talks with Iran, the Guardian reported.
The recent development would allow Congress 30 days to both review any nuclear accord with Iran and pass a resolution of disapproval.
However, U.S. President Barack Obama would not be able to remove some of the congressional sanctions on Tehran if lawmakers eventually decide to pass such a resolution.
