Whistleblower website Wikileaks has said that the American National Security Agency (NSA) spied on French President Francois Hollande, Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac in 2006-12.
According to BBC, Wikileaks on its website cited NSA's "top secret intelligence reports and technical documents".
French President Francois Hollande called a meeting with the defence council on the issue, said an aide.
The US has not confirmed the veracity of the documents.
It is not yet clear whether the documents were stolen by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
