A ground-based rocket artillery was carried out against Taliban leaders in Musa Qala district in Helmand, Task Force-Southwest, under US Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) authorities confirmed on Thursday.
USFOR-A said that the troops targeted a meeting location of prominent Taliban leaders by using the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). They also facilitated attacks against Afghan National Defense and Security Forces, who are supporting election security in the area, according to Tolo News.
Task Force-Southwest commander US Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Benjamin T. Watson, said such strikes degrade Taliban operations and this makes sure that pressure is maintained on a weakened enemy.
Task Force-Southwest which was established in 2009, was deployed in Helmand Province in April 2017. Its aim was to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Army 215th Corps and 505th Zone Afghan National Police.
