US Secretary of State John Kerry has said that Washington will send a flood-linked aid package to Myanmar to assist that country in providing relief to thousands of people affected by the calamity.
According to the Express Tribune, the Government of Myanmar has appealed for global aid to bolster relief efforts.
Kerry said that the US embassy in Yangon is working with Myanmar officials to determine the priorities for the aid.
Kerry said, at a meeting of Southeast Asia foreign ministers he co-chaired with Myanmar's foreign minister Wunna Maung Lwin, that the impact can be dealt with minimal loss of life and disruption.
