The United States has urged Sri Lanka to take thoughtful steps regarding democratic governance, justice, reconciliation and accountability.

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michael J. Sison said at an event in Colombo celebrating the 238th Independence Day of USA, that the United States maintained a positive view of a thriving and unified Sri Lanka.

Sison said that United States would support Sri Lanka in these matters to enhance the country's progress.

The United States Agency for International Developments (USAID) had already provided over two million dollars in assisting Sri Lanka, said Sison.

USAID supports Bar Association of Sri Lanka and Legal Aid Commission in order to ensure greater justice in the country, reports the Daily Mirror.

The United States is also providing Sri Lanka on the educational front. U.S. had established youth clubs that help enhance leadership and life skills among students, said Sison.
