A sudden downpour caused the Assi-Ganga river to become swollen, stranding three children, who were playing at the banks of the river, on a small islet on the river.
Women working in a nearby field alerted the authorities, with the police and the disaster management forces arriving and soon the children were rescued.
However, villagers allege that the rescue teams did not arrive swiftly enough and their delay could have caused a tragedy.
