Congress leaders criticized General V.K. Singh for his controversial tweet made last night accusing Army Chief designate, Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag of supporting dacoity. The party has now also demanded Singh's resignation.
General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, Digvijay Singh said "Congress never gives any political comment on defence forces and security issues. We want that our defence forces shouldn't be mixed with politics but the way VK Singh reacted and challenged the designation given by his own government, this is not only the violation of the ongoing tradition but also of the direction of PM Modi. This was not expected from VK Singh that he will take his personal matter to this level."
General V.K. Singh had tweeted yesterday; "If unit kills innocents, does dacoity and then head of organization tries to protect them, should he not be blamed? Criminals should go free!!"
"MOD affidavit same as it gave to AFT under protective and conniving UPA, so what is new folks?"
The tweet came in wake of the appointment of Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag as the new Army Chief.
Congress MP, Ambika Soni added, "The tweets indicate firstly politicization of issues related to the armed force and secondly raising issues by the public domain which are still under court so that can also be taken further as contempt of court so given these two very important considerations, naturally there was resentment against the concerned minister for having issued controversy to it.""
All India Trinamool Congress Party (AITMC) MP, Dinesh Trivedi said; "VK Singh's tweet showed irresponsible attitude towards the Indian army. I hope the government will take a responsible decision as now it needs to indicate that such things wouldn't be tolerated.
