Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has termed media reports that say he would spend a large sum on new players as disgusting and disrespectful.

Van Gaal reckons that such reports are disrespectful to his players, adding that he feels disgusting at the reports that claim that money is no barrier for the club to attain players of high caliber, the BBC reported.

Earlier this summer, Van Gaal spent a mammoth sum of 150 million pounds, including a record 59.7 million pounds to get Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid. In addition, Old Trafford has lately been linked with Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, and Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin.

United are currently placed fourth in the league's point table, with aiming a spot in next season's Champions League. However, the team has been struck with injury spree.

United has a chance to climb up to third position if they manages to beat Southampton on Monday.
