Vincent Van Gogh's floral masterpiece has fetched 61.8 million dollars at Sotheby's auction in New York, it has been revealed.
Gogh's painting was created at the French home of his doctor just months before his death in 1890 and was one of the few works painter sold during his lifetime, the BBC reported.
Simon Shaw, Sotheby's co-head of impressionist and modern art, said that with its connotations of healing, strength and magic, this heroic sculpture was a symbol of renewal following the Second World War.
Sotheby's said that the painting was bought by a private bidder from Asia.
