After unidentified men vandalised the statue of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kashi Ram, Dalit activist and Professor Kancha Illaya on Monday termed the incident as inhuman and said that it was attempt to destroy the legacy of the social reformer.
Illya told ANI that he believes it was an attempt by the upper layer of the society and urged the Dalit youth to rebel against the barbaric incident.
"Breaking a statute of a very great leader at the very heart of the Indian capital, shows that these forces want to destroy the legacy of Kanshi Ram, who has brought about a revolution in the political sphere of the nation," said Illiya.
"In my view, this could be the upper layer society, who always opposed Gautama Buddha, B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshiram. I believe that all Dalits should rebel against this in barbaric and human move," he added.
Statue Kanshi Ram yesterday was vandalised by four unidentified men in Ambedkar Bhavan in Gurugram, Haryana.
The incident occurred around 3 P.M. in the afternoon.
CCTV Camera footage shows four men with their faces covered hitting the statue with a sledge hammer and breaking it into pieces, while the other three guarded the place.
The incident has stirred a row and has annoyed the members of the Dalit community in the region. Community followers have asked higher authorities to nab the miscreants at the earliest or threatened to hold protests in the city.
