Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate from Sultanpur Varun Gandhi on Tuesday in an indirect reference fired back on his cousin Priyanka Gandhi's remark, who said that he had deviated from the correct path.

"No one should consider my decency and large- heartedness as my weakness. I want to say that things have been said about my path. I am an ordinary youth, my path is not so important. What really matters is that I strengthen the path of the nation," said Varun after filing his nomination from Sultanpur.

Varun Gandhi's cousin Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday in a meeting with Congress workers in Amethi district had said that Varun Gandhi had deviated from the correct path and hence people should vote with discretion.

Gandhi was elected From Pilibhit district in 2009 and has now shifted to Sultanpur constituency. He is the grandson of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Gandhi was also all praises for the BJP prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.

"In the coming future, the country needs a strong leader and the name of that leader is Narendra Modi," he said.
