Vasan's exit will terribly affect Congress in Tamil Nadu: D. Raja

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Monday said former union minister G.K. Vasan's decision to quit the Congress will terribly affect the Sonia Gandhi-led party in Tamil Nadu.

"It is a fact that Mr. Vasan's quitting Congress means a blow to the Congress party whatever strength it has now in the state of Tamil Nadu. Vasan quitting the Congress at this moment will affect the Congress in a big way," Raja told ANI here.

"Mr. Vasan's quitting Congress will terribly affect the Congress party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It shows that the Congress party is in deep crisis, ideological, political crisis and organizational crisis," he added.

 

The CPI leader further said that Vasan was expressing certain independent views contrary to the views of the Congress' national leadership in the past, in particular with regard to the issues of Tamil Nadu and the people of the state.

Earlier today, Vasan quit the quit the Congress citing conflict of interests and floated a new party.

B.S. Gnanadesikan, a loyalist of Vasan, had earlier last week tendered his resignation as the Tamil Nadu Congress chief, accusing the leadership in Delhi of failing to consult the state branch on important issues.

Tamil Nadu will go to polls in 2016.
