ANI New Delhi

Veteran journalist Praful Bidwai has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in Amsterdam.

The BBC reported that the Delhi-based scribe was in The Netherlands to attend a conference.

Bidwai, who was a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, was avowedly anti-nuclear and had written many books on the subject. He was also a founding member of an anti-nuclear group set up after the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests. He was 64.

Meanwhile, the Welfare Party of India conveyed its loss over Bijwai's demise and termed it as a great loss to the country's media. The organisation's president, Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, termed Bidwai a man committed to principles, adding that the veteran journalist fought to protect the secular foundations of the nation.
