The Janata Dal (United) (JD (U)) on Sunday strongly condemned Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) patron Ashok Singhal's remark that India would be a 'Hindu' nation by 2020, saying that the latter's motive is to destroy the country's Constitution.

"Their (VHP) motive is to destroy the Constitution. If allowed they will replace national flag with saffron flag...But people understand their motives. Now that Bihar elections are coming, they are saying these things to polarise," JD (U) leader Ali Anwar told ANI.

Singhal sparked another controversy on Saturday by saying that India would be a 'Hindu' nation by 2020.

"I was at the Sai Baba Ashram where Sai Baba told me by 2020 the entire country will be Hindu and 2030 the entire world will be Hindu. I feel that revolution has started," he said at a function in the national capital.
