Vice President Ansari congratulates hockey team on winning Asian Games Gold

Vice President M Hamid Ansari has congratulated the Indian Hockey team for their spectacular success in winning the Gold Medal at the Incheon Asian Games - 2014.

In his congratulatory message, he said, "This win brings honour to India and is an example of team spirit, skill and determination of the young players. This accomplishment also assures India of a berth in the 2016 Rio Olympics."

"Your success is a matter of pride for all Indians and will inspire the Nation to devote greater effort and resources to the promotion of Hockey as a national sport," he added.

The Indian Men's Hockey team yesterday won the finals in Asian Games 2014 held at South Korea's Incheon city after defeating Pakistan 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

 

This is India's first gold after 16 years and with this, the country has qualified for the 2016 Olympics.

Reports further said that Priyanka Pawar, Tintu Lukka, Mandeep Kaur and R. Poovamma have also created a record by winning the gold in 4x400 m relay.
