Vice President Hamid Ansari and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar on Sunday paid tributes to late independence activist and politician Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 107th birth anniversary.
Babu Jagjivan Ram was a Dalit leader and was instrumental in the founding of the All-India Depressed Classes League, an organisation dedicated to attaining equality for untouchables.
He was a Congress leader and held several portfolios during his tenure as a union minister.
His contributed immensely towards the success of Green Revolution in India and modernising Indian agriculture, during his two tenures as union agriculture minister.
