Vice President Hamid Ansari on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat, whose 103rd birth anniversary coincides with Mahatma Gandhi.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the memorial.
Senior Congress leader Anil Shastri, son of Lal Bahadir Shastri, was also present earlier at Vijay Ghat to offer his tribute to his father.
Lal Bahadir Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and a leader of the Indian National Congress party.
He was also one of the loyal followers, first of Gandhi and then of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Lal Bahadur Shastri was the first person to be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna and a memorial "Vijay Ghat" was built for him in New Delhi.
