America's largest lingerie brand Victoria Secret has changed the slogan of their original "Perfect Body" ad after it faced a widespread backlash and criticisms that it promoted body-shaming and an unhealthy and damaging message.
Viral parodies and a Change.org petition gathered over 26,000 signatures in order to change the ad's slogan, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Frances Black and Gabriella Kountourides, two of the UK students who initially launched the Change.org petition praised the change as a victory for body positive campaigners, but questioned whether it was mere face-saving lip service.
Black said in a statement that they were absolutely overjoyed by the news that Victoria's Secret had changed the wording on their website from 'The Perfect Body to 'A Body For Every Body'.
Kountourides said that they would still really like a public apology from Victoria's Secret and a promise they won't do more harmful ads.
