BJP leader Vijay Pandit, who was shot dead last night by unidentified assailants, had been receiving threatening calls since the elections, his brother said today.
Lokesh Pandit told ANI that despite written and verbal complaints to the police, no action was taken by them to protect his brother.
He blamed the UP government and the police for failing to take action and also demanded a CBI inquiry to nab those who committed the crime.
However, Deepak Singhal, Principal Secretary (Home), UP, called Pandit's death an unfortunate incidentand assured that the culprits will be given strict punishment.
The former district BJP vice president, Vijay Pandit was shot dead in Greater Noida's Dadri area on Saturday night.
According to the police, four unidentified persons came on two motorcycles and shot Pandit dead.
The shooting led to violent protests where sixteen vehicles were set on fire near the police station. Reports are also saying that four people have been detained for questioning after the murder.
