A resident of Hakajam village was shot dead allegedly by Maoists in Jharkhand's Gumla District.

District police on Friday said the deceased has been identified as Bijay Burma and that he was attacked in broad daylight.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Bansal refused to disclose any further details, saying certain verifications are yet to be confirmed.

"One has been killed. We have sent our complete team. Full verification of the incident is yet to come and so we cannot comment further on this issue," he said.

The Maoists, who are considered to be India's greatest internal security threat, have off-late intensified their operations in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and some areas of West Bengal.
