Vishwamohan Bhatt disapproves writers returning awards

Noted musician Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today along with a delegation of artistes from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, disapproved the returning of Sahitya Akademi awards by poets and writers, saying the awards are given to individuals for their excellence.

"Politics not to be mixed with awards. Awards given to individual for their excellence, must respect it," Bhatt told ANI.

He further expressed happiness at the delgation's meeting with Prime Minister Modi, saying that the latter was receptive of the views expressed by them.

"PM Modi said that our thoughts match his, he was very receptive of our thoughts...Made a few suggestions to the Prime Minister about how to keep the arts alive," he said.

 

A delegation of artistes from the Sangeet Natak Akademi called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Pt. Ajoy Chakravarty, Aruna Sairam and Atul Tiwari were part of the delegation.

Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Shekhar Sen, was also present on the occasion.
