Veteran Australian all-rounder Adam Voges has said that he believes that the start of the new season of the domestic Sheffield Shield tournament will prove the true selection trial for the players pushing for Test selection for the return Ashes series.
Voges is among several players thought to be under consideration for the vacant No.6 batsman spot in the home Test series against England
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, under the new domestic calendar announced last week, the Sheffield Shield will begin on October 30, with three rounds to be played before the start of the home Test series against England.
Although Voges is hoping to boost his chances of an Ashes call-up in the one-day series against England like the rest of his teammates, he feels that domestic first-class performances will count for more, adding that there will be an opportunity for a few players to press their Ashes claims in the Shield fixtures.
However, Voges, who will play in India with the Big Bash league Perth Scorchers for the Champions League Twenty20 after the ODI series, admitted that at this moment, his focus is completely on the ODI series, adding that he and his teammates will look at the Shield season when they get there.
