A day after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he would request the High Court to order the CBI to conduct its inquiry into the Vyapam scam, the Congress party said it wants the SIT to supervise the probe.

"Let us be clear, our demand is for not a CBI simpliciter. Our demand consistently has been for a SIT, which will supervise the CBI, if the CBI is entrusted," Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI.

"Secondly, what made the Chief Minister change in 24 hours? I would like to believe that he listens to the Congress, he listens to public interest, unfortunately that may not be the case. He may be listening more to the internal contradictions within his party and to the impossibility of explaining these terrible facts," he added.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court is set to hold a hearing on Chouhan's recommendation of a CBI probe into the Vyapam scam today.

Chouhan has been facing the heat over the scam after a number of accused and witnesses connected with the case reportedly died under mysterious circumstances.

As many as 46 people associated with the scam as accused or witnesses have died under mysterious circumstances, according to latest reports.

Over the past week, a doctor related to the employment scam, a medical college dean and journalist Akshay Singh were also found dead.
