Walmart has called on the Bangladesh Government to stop production at the Stitch Tone Apparels factory and to order a probe on structural conditions of a neighbouring factory.
The move by Walmart comes after the death of over 1100 people in a recent factory collapse in Savar, Fox Business reports.
Walmart vice president of ethical sourcing Rajan Kamalanathan backed the government's action by saying that closing the factories believed to be dangerous has been a responsible deed.
Walmart also reported a potentially dangerous condition at the Liz Apparels factory, simultaneously notifying the government, the factory owner and other companies that contract with the facility.
Kamalanathan said Walmart had called on the Bangladesh government to take necessary actions to ensure safe working conditions in the factories.
