Australian opener David Warner has dismissed claims that he failed to acknowledge Joe Root's century during the first Ashes Test, insisting that he clapped for the England vice-captain when he notched up his century in Cardiff.
Earlier, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum both had advocated that Warner should have shown more respect on the field.
Refusing claims of disrespect, Warner said that if the camera had stayed on him for the five minutes Root celebrated, it would have been visible that he had clapped along with other guys, Stuff.co.nz reported.
He insisted that the snapshot in which he was found still was taken a minute and a half later after Root had raised his bat. He also expressed his disappointment at reports that he did not clap when the England batsman had reached his milestone.
Warner and Root were involved in a bar-room brawl during the Australia's last tour of England in 2013.
